As Christ’s Body, we witness His love in our communities.
Today, we joyfully celebrate Easter Sunday, the Resurrection of our Lord
Jesus Christ. On this day we reflect on the core of our faith: the resurrection and
the promise of eternal life. Unlike other Sundays, at today’s Mass we renew our
baptismal promises, reinforcing our commitment to God and our choice to turn
away from sin. This meaningful act reminds us of our Christian identity as we
embrace our dedication to living according to Christ’s teachings.
The Renewal of Baptismal Promises consists of two parts: the Renunciation
of Sin and the Profession of Faith. In the first part, we sincerely express our
commitment to turn away from sin, confidently saying “NO” to the devil and
anything else that pulls us away from God. This rejection is crucial because it
reflects our heartfelt desire to embrace a life that aligns with the Gospel. The
follow-up, the Profession of Faith, offers us a wonderful opportunity to openly
share and affirm what we believe, highlighting our core values as treasured
members of the Body of Christ. Together, these steps represent our dedication to
living a faith-filled life grounded in God’s grace and love.
By this renewal we are making a sincere commitment that resonates beyond
our immediate surroundings. What we proclaim during the Eucharistic
celebration is heard on earth, in heaven, and across the spiritual realms. The
solemnity of this day reminds us that our promises will be tested in various ways.
As St. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians, “God is faithful and will not let you be tried
beyond your strength; but with the trial, he will also provide a way out so that you
may be able to bear it” (1 Corinthians 10:13). God is always with us and
promises to provide us strength in times of trial and uncertainty.
Dear brothers and sisters, as we renew our baptismal promises, we embrace
the opportunity to deepen our relationship with Christ, especially in
acknowledging His Resurrection. As members of the Body of the Risen Christ,
we are called to witness His love within our communities. In doing so, we are
responsible for sharing the hope of the Resurrection, which serves as a beacon
of light in a world that often struggles with despair. As we move forward from this
Easter season, let us carry the blessings bestowed upon us each day. Our
renewal of baptismal promises should inspire us to reflect God’s love and joy in
all we do. May this Easter Sunday remind us of the remarkable gift of faith we
have received, encouraging us to live boldly as Christians committed to our Lord
and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Wishing you a blessed Easter!Fr. Dominic Toan Tran, Pastor
