Seek What Is Above!
On this sacred Easter Sunday, as we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord
Jesus Christ, let us reflect on the profound message of hope, renewal, and
salvation that this day brings us. The responsorial Psalm echoes in our hearts
and minds: “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad.” It is a
day of triumph over sin, death, new beginnings, and eternal promise.
In our second reading, St. Paul implores the Colossians’ community and us
to remember our union with Christ in His resurrection. He states, “Seek what is
above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Think of what is above,
not of what is on earth.” These words prompt us to consider the transient nature
of our earthly existence. While we may be preoccupied with the concerns and
demands of this life, it is essential to remember that our time here is limited.
In the busyness of our daily routines, it is easy to become consumed by the
pursuits and ambitions of this world. We invest significant time and energy in
collecting wealth, seeking success, and pursuing personal fulfillment. While
these endeavors may have some value in our lives, they should not be our
ultimate purpose and destination. Therefore, Easter calls us to reevaluate our
priorities and redirect our gaze toward the heavenly realities. This is a time to fix
our thoughts on the eternal, to align our desires with God’s purposes, and to live
in eagerness for the day when Christ, our life, will appear in His glory.
This means cultivating a deeper relationship with God through prayer,
scripture study, and participation in the Church’s sacramental life. It means
allowing the resurrection of Christ to transform our hearts and minds, shaping our
values and guiding our actions. It means living with an awareness of our
citizenship in Heaven and striving to bring the values of God’s kingdom into our
daily interactions and responsibilities.
As we celebrate Jesus’s Resurrection, let us rejoice in the hope and promise
it brings. Let us embrace the transformative power of His victory over sin and
death; and commit to living as Easter people, constantly seeking what is above,
fixing our thoughts on the heavenly realities, and living in joyful anticipation of the
day when we will appear with Christ in glory.Fr. Dominic Toan Tran, Pastor
Dear brothers and sisters, may our lives become a testimony to the
resurrection power of Jesus, radiating His love, joy, and peace to a world in
need; and, in doing so, we can say: “This is the day the Lord has made; let us
rejoice and be glad.”
I wish you all a happy and blessed Easter!
