Let’s Open Our Hearts and Allow Jesus to Heal Our Wounds.
Divine Mercy Sunday calls us to trust in the boundless mercy of Jesus
Christ, who offers us healing and peace amid our brokenness. In today’s Gospel,
St. John recounts the moment when Jesus appeared to the disciples behind
locked doors, offering them the greeting of “Peace be with you.” In their fear and
disappointment, the disciples had closed the doors of their hearts, shutting out
the possibility of reconciliation and peace. Yet, in that very moment, God’s
presence broke through, bringing them the peace they desperately needed.
In our own experience, we often encounter moments of betrayal, hurt, and
disappointment that may lead us to close our hearts to others. When we are
wounded by those we love or when we have caused others pain, it can be
challenging to find the courage to seek forgiveness or extend forgiveness to
those who have wronged us. The walls we build around our hearts can become
obstacles to experiencing the peace and healing God desires.
However, the message of Divine Mercy offers us hope and assurance that
no door is closed to the love of God. Just as Jesus appeared to the disciples
behind locked doors, He stands ready to enter the closed chambers of our
hearts. When we invite the Resurrection Lord into our hearts, we open ourselves
to His transformative grace, allowing Him to heal our wounds and bring us inner
peace.
The resurrection of Jesus is a powerful reminder of God’s victory over sin
and death and His unending love for each of us. As we contemplate the reality of
the Risen Christ, we are invited to place our trust in Him and surrender our fears,
doubts, and hurts at His feet. Despite our failings and weaknesses, Jesus stands
ready to extend His mercy and forgiveness to us, inviting us to come to Him with
open hearts and say, “Jesus, I trust in You!” This simple yet powerful affirmation
acknowledges that we believe in His love, mercy, and power to heal. It is an
invitation for Him to enter the depths of our pain, heal our wounds, and bring
about genuine reconciliation. Trusting in Jesus does not mean that our pain will
magically disappear. It means that we have opened our hearts and surrendered
our pain and brokenness to Him, knowing He can bring beauty out of ashes.Fr. Dominic Toan Tran, Pastor
