Are you willing to open to the Spirit’s guidance?
On the 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time, the readings encourage us to reflect on
the unity and diversity within the Body of Christ and our mission to share the
Gospel. Using the metaphor of the Church as a body made up of many parts, St.
Paul addresses the Corinthians and illustrates that while we are one, united in
Christ, each of us has a unique role and purpose. Each person’s talents and gifts
are essential to the overall health and functioning of the entire body. Likewise, as
members of the parish and the wider community, we are called to contribute our
strengths and gifts for the common good.
This concept resonates in our daily lives, encouraging us to recognize and
appreciate the diversity present in our communities. Whether through acts of
service, sharing our talents, or offering support to one another, we all play
essential roles. In a world often divided by differences, this teaching reminds us
to focus on our unity in Christ and to work toward common goals that reflect His
love and compassion.
In the Gospel of St. Luke, Jesus returns to Galilee, filled with the Spirit and
proclaiming His mission to bring good news to the poor, freedom for the captives,
and sight to the blind. This passage is a powerful reminder of our call to action.
Jesus’ mission is a blueprint for us to follow, urging us to actively and
intentionally live out our faith. The Spirit that empowered Jesus is the same Spirit
that inspires us today, encouraging us to make a difference in the lives of others.
During this Jubilee, a time of renewal and hope, we are called to be “Pilgrims
of Hope,” sharing the Gospel message with the world. This moment provides an
opportunity to recommit to living our faith in tangible ways. Doing so requires us
to step outside our comfort zones to support those in need, advocate for justice,
and express Christ’s love through our words and actions. The Jubilee offers a
chance to reflect on how we can better serve our communities and contribute to
a world that embodies the values of the Gospel. It’s an opportunity to embrace
hope and optimism about the change we can bring to the world.
Dear brothers and sisters, let us reflect on how we can better align our lives
with this mission. Are we open to the Spirit’s guidance, allowing it to lead us in
service and love? Recognizing that we are one body in Christ and that each of us
plays a vital role, together, we can create a world filled with hope and love,
embodying the mission of Jesus. Beginning today and throughout this Jubilee
let us be “Pilgrims of Hope” and live our lives with a renewed sense of purpose
and a dedication to practicing our faith daily.Fr. Dominic Toan Tran, Pastor
