Let us embrace the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
On the second Sunday of Lent, St. Luke presents us with a beautiful moment
in Jesus’ mission. He invites Peter, John, and James to join Him on a mountain
to pray. This prayer journey is not just an ordinary task; it is a transformative
experience where they witness the glorious splendor of God. It reminds us that
prayer is not a mere ritual, but a powerful tool that can bring about profound
change in our lives. Last week, we reflected on “Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit,
returned from Jordan and was led by the Spirit.” This week, St. Luke invites and
encourages us to open our hearts and minds, allowing Jesus to guide us, just as
He did with His closest friends. By welcoming Him into our lives, especially
during this Lenten season, we can experience the renewing power of the Holy
Spirit, emerging transformed and uplifted.
The Transfiguration of the Lord highlights the revelation of Jesus’ divine
identity to His disciples. In this event, Jesus is not only a teacher; He is revealed
as the Son of God, connecting us to our true essence as beings created in His
image. This reflection encourages us to examine how social influences may have
shaped our perceptions, often leading us to pursue superficial values and
glamorous appearances that distract us from our true selves. As we journey
through this Lenten season, let us redirect our focus and open our ears to the
voice of Jesus. Ascending the mountain with Him in prayer allows us to gain
clarity and understanding about our identity as children of God.
Dear brothers and sisters, as we journey through this special Lenten season
in the Jubilee Year, let us strive to help others rise above mundane concerns and
seek God’s eternal light. The call to prayer and reflection is not isolated; it is
communal and universal, inviting all of us into a deeper relationship with Christ.
Remember, we are not alone on this journey. We are part of a larger family, all
seeking spiritual growth and renewal, fostering a sense of connection and
support. Regardless of our circumstances, it is essential to remain receptive to
the guidance of the Holy Spirit. His presence in our lives is a constant source of
comfort and direction.
Each day during this Lenten season offers a chance to deepen our
connection with God, creating an environment where our hearts and minds align
with His will. By surrendering to the Holy Spirit’s guidance, we can embark on a
profound spiritual journey that enriches our lives and the lives of those around
us. Let this time be one of transformation and renewal as we faithfully follow the
path laid before us.Fr. Dominic Toan Tran, Pastor
