We must undertake this mission with all our hearts and souls.
In today’s Gospel, on this 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time, Jesus challenges
the Pharisees, scribes, and us by quoting Isaiah: “This people honors me with
their lips, but their hearts are far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching
as doctrines human precepts. You disregard God’s commandment but cling to
human tradition.” These words prompt us to examine the sincerity of our faith.
Are we merely paying lip service to God or connecting our hearts and actions
with His will? It is not enough to say the right things or follow rituals; our daily
lives must reflect our devotion through genuine love, compassion, and justice.
This is a call to honor God not only in words but also in deeds.Last week, I emphasized the urgent need to vote NO on Amendment 4, a
proposed legislation that would legalize late-term abortion in our state. This
week, I reiterate the urgent call from our bishops: “We urge all Floridians of
goodwill to stand against the legalization of late-term abortion and oppose the
abortion amendment. In doing so, we will not only protect the weakest, most
innocent, and defenseless of human life among us but also countless women
throughout the state from the harms of abortion”. As people of faith, we are
called to defend life at all stages. By opposing Amendment 4, we are fulfilling a
fundamental moral obligation to stand up for the dignity of every human being,
especially the most vulnerable. This is a call for immediate action to ensure our
society respects and protects life.Just as Moses urged the Israelites in the first reading, “Now, Israel, hear the
statutes and decrees which I am teaching you to observe, that you may live,” so
too are we urged to listen to the voices of our leaders and heed their guidance.
Their wisdom helps us navigate complex moral landscapes and encourages us
to remain steadfast in our values. Let us take time to reflect on how we can
better integrate our beliefs into our daily lives and truly live as Christ taught. Are
we advocating for justice, peace, and the sanctity of life? Our actions, guided by
His teachings, can help shape a society that reflects His love and mercy.
Therefore, by embracing these principles, we not only honor God but also help
build a society that reflects His love and mercy.Dear brothers and sisters, let us be vigilant in our commitment to faith in
action. May our words and deeds consistently reflect the love and truth of the
Gospel. Let us remember that this is not just a call but a mission we must
undertake with all our hearts and souls. Together, let us work towards a world
where every person is cherished, and every life is valued.Fr. Dominic Toan Tran, Pastor
