Let us be renewed and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
The first Sunday of Lent marks a sacred journey that invites introspection,
renewal, and a deeper connection to our faith. The theme for our parish’s 2025
Lenten Mission, “The Holy Spirit,” serves as a poignant reminder of the essential
role this divine presence plays in our spiritual lives. Guided by Msgr. Steven
Bosso, our Lenten Mission will take place from March 24th through March 26th at
7:00 pm at the church; everyone is welcome. Today’s Gospel reading recounts
how Jesus, “filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by
the Spirit into the desert for forty days.” This passage illustrates the profound
impact of the Holy Spirit, who not only empowered Jesus during His time of trial
but also guides us through our deserts of uncertainty and struggle. Let us
embark on this journey together as a community, seeking the guidance of the
Holy Spirit.
During Lent, we engage in prayer, fasting, and almsgiving as acts of
devotion. These practices provide paths to spiritual renewal. We may encounter
moments of doubt that can leave us feeling overwhelmed. In such times, the
plea, “Be with me, Lord, when I am in trouble,” resonates within our hearts,
calling for support from the Holy Spirit, whose transformative presence turns
despair into hope. St. Paul reminds us, “No one who believes in Him will be put
to shame,” offering reassurance amid life’s challenges. Lent allows us to
acknowledge our vulnerabilities while embracing God’s grace through the Holy
Spirit. It encourages forgiveness and strengthens our faith, paving the way for
spiritual renewal.
As we navigate this Lenten season, it is crucial that we actively seek the
presence of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives. This involves opening our hearts
and minds to the guidance and inspiration that the Spirit provides. By doing so,
we not only nurture a deeper relationship with God but also empower ourselves
to face the challenges and temptations that arise along the way. Prayer becomes
an essential practice during Lent, allowing us to express our needs and desires
to God and inviting the Holy Spirit to lead us toward healing and renewal.
Dear brothers and sisters, as we embark on this journey through Lent, let’s
wholeheartedly commit to seeking God for the incredible gift of the Holy Spirit in
all we do. May the Holy Spirit be our companion, providing us with strength,
wisdom, and comfort as we grow in faith together. We warmly invite you to join
this Lenten Mission, which presents a wonderful opportunity to deepen our
understanding and experience of the Holy Spirit. Ultimately, it leads us toward a
more fulfilling spiritual renewal as we prepare to celebrate Easter!Fr. Dominic Toan Tran, Pastor
