Bible Study – A Biblical Walk Through the Mass
Do you understand the meaning behind the parts of the Mass? In this entertaining and informative video-based study, Dr. Edward Sri explores the roots of the words and gestures we experience at Mass and explains their profound significance. You will come to know and understand the Mass as never before, leading you to a richer, more fruitful worship experience
Join us for A Biblical Walk Through the Mass here at St. John’s for five weekly sessions – each Thursday from October 22nd to November 19. The course is available at 10:00am or 7:30pm, in rooms 5 & 6 in the Parish Hall. For more information or to register for the study, e-mail Greg at greg@saintjohnfamily.com, or call the Parish Office (561) 488-1373.
.
Read before the sessions:
The course is best taken by reading the lesson during the week before the day or evening we meet. The Study Questions from Ascension Press are very helpful in considering what was read. They are included in the Student Workbook.
We will review the Ascension Press Study Questions at the beginning of the session, and then view the talk by Dr. Edward Sri for the next half hour. After the talk there will be time for some reflection on the talk.
.
Materials needed:
A bible, the New American Bible or an RSV Catholic Edition Bible with Apocrypha is recommended. The New American Bible is available online, for free, from the US Catholic Bishops web site at http://www.usccb.org/bible/books-of-the-bible/. Either bible is available on paper for $20 to $30, a paper bible is recommended.
.
Student Pack: The Student Pack includes the study’s 165 page textbook A Biblical Walk Through the Mass and the 36 page Student Workbook. It can be ordered from Ascension Press Student Pack
.
The Study Questions often refer to the sections of the Catechism of the Catholic Church by paragraph number. The St. Charles Borromeo Church web site hosts the Catechism, with a view of the Table of Contents of the Catechism with Paragraph Numbers at http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/ccc_toc2.htm, which makes finding these sections easier.
