Can you be a Source of Hope?
On this 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time, as we also celebrate World Mission
Sunday, we are invited to reflect on the theme “Missionaries of Hope Among All
People.” This message touches on the core of our faith and how we reach out to
the world around us. In Jesus’s life, death, and resurrection, we find a source of
hope that shines brightly even in the darkest moments. Following His example,
we are encouraged to embody that hope and share it with those we encounter.
The first reading from the book of Exodus reminds us of God’s constant
presence in our lives. Moses instructs Joshua, “Pick out certain men, and
tomorrow go out and engage Amalek in battle. I will be standing on top of the hill
with the staff of God in my hand.” Just like Moses, we are encouraged to take
action. It is comforting to know that God walks with us in our journey, ready to
support, guide, and strengthen us every step of the way. As we face challenges,
this divine promise fills our hearts with resilience and hope, inspiring us to
persevere with faith and courage.
In our second reading from 2 Timothy, St. Paul emphasizes the importance
of Scripture as a powerful guide for teaching, correction, and preparing us for
good works. His words “Be persistent, whether it is convenient or inconvenient,”
remind us that regardless of our challenges, following Christ calls for
perseverance. To truly live out the Good News every day, we need to remain
firm in our faith, allowing our actions and words to reflect Christ’s hope.
World Mission Sunday is a heartfelt reminder for each of us to reflect on how
we are called to be agents of change within our families, communities, and
beyond. Jesus invites us to examine our lives and ask: Are we truly living out His
message? Are we spreading hope in every interaction, no matter how small?
Sharing our faith goes beyond words; it is also demonstrated through acts of
kindness, moments of compassion, and the choices we make each day. Whether
it is volunteering at a local charity, offering support to a neighbor in need, or
simply being a source of encouragement to those around us, every act echoes
the call to be missionaries of hope.
Dear brothers and sisters, on World Mission Sunday, let us accept the call to
be missionaries of hope to all people. Just as Christ’s life demonstrated hope,
may our actions reflect His lasting light. The world needs hope now more than
ever, and together, we can be the light that guides those seeking reassurance
during uncertain times. Embrace the challenge to be a source of hope and
change the lives of those around you.Rev. Dominic Toan Tran, Pastor
